ExOfficio’s line of products are very nice and I just tried out their new Give -N-Go boxer briefs. Very comfortable and soft, the breathable wick dry fabric keeps you dry. Protected by the Aegis microbe shield, the quick drying and lightweight fabric is odor resistant. Best of all, you can wash it and from fully soaked, the fabric can dry in 2-4 hours. Downside, they are the most expensive underwear around. Give them a shot here: http://www.exofficio.com

Backwoods Solar - off the grid experts!Posted by: admin in Companies, Outdoors Gear, RecommendationsI have just ordered the Backwoods Solar (click here for more information) catalog and it is full of interesting ways to reduce your power consumption and add alternative energy generation to your property. Solutions from solar to wind to swamp coolers to micro hydro are listed as well as many top rated energy saving appliances and ideas of how to change your consumption habits. Very highly recommended and a pleasure to work with. This is a good example of a collection of Geodesic Greenhouses - Grow things when it’s cold, you’ll be glad you did. Just ordered this slingshot and it it quite sturdy and well built. Two thumbs up!

Post Collapse - a framework of projects for community resiliencePosted by: admin in Articles, Outdoors GearAfter reading through the Post Collapse website, it became clear that this should be on everyone’s project list. Take a read through the subjects the author lists. If you think the infrastructure is significantly robust, then great. If not, let it be the beginning of a community discussion.

How to build a Rain Barrel SystemPosted by: admin in Outdoors Gear, Products, Writing/ArticlesIf you live in the DC area, you’ve been rained on a lot lately. Capitalize on this resource and be thankful, lots of other people are in droughts right now. A way to save a little money over the long run is to buy a rain barrel now. This will decrease your water bill over time for your lawn/garden/car washing, etc., but will also save water which you might not have if it gets really hot this summer and the rains go away. Heck, you might even need it to drink (so keep it clean and dirt/bacteria free)! Are you from Atlanta? Remember last summer? Plan ahead, save money, stay resilient. The first link explains how to build one for yourself. The next links are some pathways to buy pre-made ones online. I’m not making any brand recommendations here - it’s just a barrel. *Brochure |
